Gridiron

Gridiron is an arcade-style American football game that was developed within a tight timeline of two weeks using blueprints in UE5 for a Tech Design class at UCF FIEA. The primary concept behind the game was to create an American football game with a similar style to the Mario sports games.

The passing system developed for this game enables players to hit receivers with precision by calculating the receiver's speed and determining the maximum ball velocity that the quarterback can throw while identifying the ideal position to throw the ball. In addition to this, multiple defensive positions with custom AI were developed, including cornerbacks, pass rushers, and safeties, as showcased in the video. Furthermore, a unique zone coverage system was implemented for safeties to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

Interceptions

Moreover, it should be noted that players in Gridiron have the capacity to throw interceptions should they attempt to force the ball into coverage.

Abilities

To enhance the arcade-style nature of the game, Gridiron incorporates an ability system. At present, the game only has two implemented abilities, namely the Speed Boost and the "Bomb." The latter is featured in the accompanying video, wherein it temporarily stuns the opposing team.

Hot Routes

Similar to real-life American football, players in Gridiron possess the ability to audible at the line of scrimmage prior to the snap. This function enables them to cycle through hot routes by pressing the designated button of the intended receiver before the snap.
